Espoo is Finland’s second largest city in the Helsinki metropolitan area renowned as the centre of science, art, business and high technology. With the presence of Aalto University, European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), global HQ’s for corporations such as Nokia and Kone, Espoo serves as a prime innovation and technology hub for Northern Europe.

The recruitment services of the city of Espoo coordinate recruitment of the city’s permanent and semi-permanent personnel in collaboration with the city’s operational functions. The City began to use WOPI as an adjunct to employment interviews in 2009. The candidate categories include specialists and supervisors across all operational functions.

YLE – The Finnish Broadcasting Company is a full-service media company providing content in TV, radio, internet and mobile devices. YLE operates four national television channels and six radio channels. The number of permanent personnel is over 3.000 and comprises a wide variety of jobs and positions, 85% of which are involved in programme production.

In staffing, YLE has a special emphasis on internal mobility and, career & vocational development is fostered actively. In 2010, over 300 persons changed jobs internally. YLE began to use WOPI in 2006 as an aid in staffing decisions involving specialist and supervisory jobs and positions.

HAUS – The Finnish Institute of Public Management implements training, development and consultation on acquisition and development of personnel and management for the public sector. Mandated by the Finnish government, its clients include the Prime Minister’s Office, state departments, bodies of regional and local administration. Internationally, HAUS’s clients include EU administration and the EU membership states regarding inter-governmental work.

The Future Leaders Program is a development program targeted for corporate level leaders in the state’s administration. The program is aligned with the Ministry of Finance’s strategic goal in which Finland is a hardy, competitive and innovative economy with an efficient and highly qualified public sector. Following a pilot, WOPI was adopted in 2010 as an integral part of the program to foster participants’ awareness of their leadership drivers. Participants have also had the option of entering in-depth coaching processes.

The S Group is a Finnish retailing cooperative consisting of 22 regional cooperatives in the markets for groceries, consumer durables, service station, hotel and restaurant services, agricultural supplies and car sales. The total number of personnel is 38.000 and the group has quickly growing businesses in Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. Jollas Institute is the training & learning centre for the S Group, providing vocational and leadership training for the group.

S Group began using WOPI in 2008 as a tool in recruitment of candidates to a wide variety of jobs nationwide. In 2009, the Jollas Institute adopted WOPI as a tool for varied training programs targeted at supervisors and managers across all business areas.
